Why I preordered the upcoming Apress Lisp books

Monday, August 23, 2004

I preordered via Amazon the upcoming Apress Lisp books, Practical Common Lisp by Peter Seibel, and The ANSI Common Lisp Reference Book by David Margolies. My main motivation is to reward authors and publishers of Lisp books: to show them that Lispers appreciate quality and are willing to pay for it, and to motivate them to produce more books.

And, of course, another good reason is to "crush O'Reilly utterly", as Dan Barlow puts it in a Lemonodor comment. Among Lispers there has been some disappointment, to put it mildly, about the decision of O'Reilly not to accept Lisp book proposals.

If you are seriously interested in Lisp, this is an occasion for literally putting your money where your mouth is.
