Xvidcap: screen movie capture tool for Linux

Wednesday, June 15, 2005

Rainer Joswig has an impressive collection of Lisp session videos at his site. Most of them show the Symbolics Genera Lisp Machine environment at work. They were created with a tool for capturing live screen activity and sound input to a movie. While there are several such tools for Windows and Mac OS X, I always wished I had something similar for Linux.

I have run across such a Linux tool, xvidcap. I have been unable to build the bleeding edge version 1.1.4pre2, but the latest stable one, 1.1.3, works fine. Xvidcap, which is simple to use, comes with a couple of instructional videos created with itself, good documentation and a useful FAQ.
